Birch Grove 3 Canvas Reproduction

$325.00

Presenting the third painting in my three piece series of birch trees in autumn. The birch tree has been intertwined with the culture and economy Newfoundland and Labrador, from the use of birch bark by Indigenous peoples to the development of a forest industry.

Before Europeans arrived, Indigenous peoples used birch bark to make dwellings, containers, and storehouses. The Beothuk used the waterproof bark to construct canoes.

In the early 19th century, the fishery shifted to a family-based model, which led to the development of a small-scale forest industry. White birch is the main hardwood found in Newfoundland and is used commercially for plywood, firewood, landscaping, and specialty wood items.

Description

The original painting was created using Acrylic on a 16×20 canvas and is available as a reproduction gallery wrapped canvas print.
