Crow Head Copper Original

This original acrylic painting captures the historic remains of the old copper mine at Crow Head, Newfoundland, preserving an important piece of the province’s industrial and cultural heritage. The Sleepy Cove Copper Mine at Crow Head, near Twillingate, Newfoundland operated in the early 1900’s. High grade copper was discovered in 1902 and the mine was operational for 10+ years, closing in 1920 because of falling prices and is a part of Newfoundland history. The original black & white is from a collection held at the Twillingate library. While the mine is no longer in operation and most of its infrastructure is no longer there, it remains an historic landmark to the local area.
