This original acrylic painting captures the timeless beauty of a traditional green Newfoundland home overlooking a peaceful bay where majestic icebergs drift offshore. Colourful wildflowers blanket the hillside in the foreground, adding vibrant contrast to the cool blues of the Atlantic Ocean and the brilliant white icebergs beyond. Expressive brushwork, rich textures, and carefully layered colours create depth and warmth, celebrating the remarkable relationship between Newfoundland’s coastal communities and the natural wonders that surround them. Titled “Bergs in the Bay,” the painting reflects the quiet joy of everyday life in a place where breathtaking scenery is simply part of the view, making it a heartfelt tribute to Newfoundland’s unique landscape and maritime heritage.
Each year icebergs flow through what is known as Iceberg Alley. Iceberg Alley stretches from the coast of Labrador to the southeast coast of the island of Newfoundland. The icebergs come through Iceberg Alley from spring to early summer. As you move north, the season stretches a bit longer. April and May are the months when bergs are most plentiful, but they can still been seen in late May and early June.
